The Wine

At Horse Play, we’ve added a frisky twist to the traditional Meritage recipe of red Bordeaux varieties by blending Syrah with Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot to create our rambunctious Rollicking Red. Our debut 2005 vintage was produced from choice grapes grown in Sonoma County and the Central Coast regions of Paso Robles and San Benito County. The outstanding 2005 growing season fostered intense, concentrated flavors in our grapes, greatly enhancing the quality of this robust, yet graceful red, which gained further complexity from five months’ aging in French and American oak.

Inspired by the free-spirited playfulness of wild horses – among the world’s most magnificent and noble creatures

Bright aromas of cherries, currants, blackberries and vanilla fill the nose, with subtle roasted and toasty oak tones adding a savory note. On the mouthfilling palate, rich cherry, cassis and spice flavors are plush and balanced, leading to a long, fruitful finish. Enjoy Rollicking Red with grilled red meats, savory meat stews, succulent prime rib, roast chicken with garlic & herbs, rack of lamb, hearty pasta dishes and flavorful cheeses.
